Living Shoreline - Marsh Restoration
Join naturalists as they discuss the changes along the shoreline of Cattus Island and the plans for marsh restoration. Cattus Island is the most significant salt marsh and the largest breakwater in the northern portion of Barnegat Bay. The overall goal of this project is to restore critical shoreline areas to address significant erosion and prevent extreme wetlands and habitat loss in the Barnegat Bay.
The Friends will also discuss planned restoration projects in Island Beach State Park.
Sunday February 9th - Lichens of NJ with Jason Hafstad
This presentation will explore the diversity of lichens found in New Jersey, including what lichens are, how they are identified, and why they are critical components of New Jersey's biodiverse ecosystems.
Sunday February 23rd - Composting to Save our Shore with Clean Communities
Join us as we learn about the importance of oceans, bays, and shorelines and how we can protect the health of our waterways while building a sustainable garden through composting. Beachside gardening comes with a special set of challenges and environmental impacts. We will show you how to start and maintain a compost pile to improve your garden and attract pollinators. Attendees will receive a free compost bin.

Meet Revolutionary War Hero, Joshua Huddy, as portrayed by Jeff Schenker. Learn about the Toms River battle of the Block House and the Cranberry Inlet which created a major commercial port at Toms River.
